CWU Wake Team Dominates 2012 West Region

The Central Washington University Wakeboard Team traveled to Sacramento this weekend to compete in Collegiate Wakeboard Championship for the western region. The conditions were perfect at the WaterSports Farm, a private lake with a perfect setup. The competition awards team members based on how well they do in their respective divisions. Individuals are scored on amplitude, style, and composition of their runs. CWU started strong during Saturday’s preliminary round and nine of the 12 riders made it into the final round on Sunday. Patrick Mahoney was first off the dock for CWU and finished in second place in Men D. Mike Day landed half-cabs for days and rode his way to second place in Men C. Chelsea Worland stepped up big-time landing 180’s and huge jumps to finish second in the ladies division. Pat Mahoney stepped back out for the wake skate (the board is not attached to his feet) division and landed a shuv-it along with other skate style tricks to take third place. CWU turned up the heat in the Men B division with Sean Harris, Corbin Schafer, and Eddie Roberts all making top seeds in the finals. All riders threw down and had some of the rides of their lives and in the end CWU beat out ASU and Chico riders and finished Corbin is 3rd, Sean in 2nd, and Eddie in 1st. At this point, CWU had a ton of momentum to pass off to Men A riders; Veteran, Thomas Olson and newcomer, Kolby Blew. Both threw down ridiculous combos. Thomas surprised everyone and stomped a big-worm (toe-side pop, handle overhead 900 rotation) and Kolby landed a crow-mobe (front flip 360) to a tantrum to blind (backflip backside 180) combo. Everyone from CWU was on point and rode hard to earn a 1st place team victory. Also riding for CWU were Sterling Frye, Alex Armstrong, Katherine Norris, Reale Jakubal, Brian Schneider, and Craver Small. This competition also awards the top three teams an invite to the Alt Games National Wakeboard Championship in spring of 2013.

CWU Scorers
Eddie Roberts 7 points
Thomas Olson 6 points
Sean Harris 6 points
Kolby Blew 5 points
Corbin Schafer 5 points
Pat Mahoney 5 points
Mike Day 3 points
Chelsea Worland 2 points
